Yesterday (Day 2) we were in Key West, Florida. We did not have a tour booked. We got off the ship around 10:30 am and took the complimentary trolley car into old town. We were dropped off at Mallory Square. We wandered around old town and really enjoyed it. Architecture reminded us of the Garden District of New Orleans with a touch of Art Deco as in Napier, New Zealand. Below are some of the sights we saw.
Around Mallory Square we saw this sculpture of a couple dancing in front of the Custom House Museum.
Next along our amble we saw Dr. Joseph Yates Porter's house (circa 1838).
We visited the Key West Historical Sculpture Garden. Here is Harry Truman.
Interestingly, there are also a number of sculptures of female historical figures. Here is Ellen Mallory.
We went to lunch at Garbo's Grill. Great agave margaritas and delicious fish tacos.
For our sea day today, we attended a lecture on the Pre-Columbian Civilizations of the Andes followed by a cooking demonstration (with a tasting) of Caribbean Chicken and Coconut Curry, Roti Bread and Mango Chutney. It was yummy!
In the afternoon we attended a digital camera class followed by a destination lecture on our next port - Puerto Limon, Costa Rica - on January 9.
Tonight is our first formal night with the Captain's Welcome Cocktail Reception at 7:00 pm.
Stay tuned.....
