We docked in Lima, Peru yesterday morning. We stayed on the ship during the day as our excursion was not scheduled until 5:00 pm. It was warm and mostly sunny so we sat on the balcony a lot of the day. We did our 5th go at the 9 laps of the jogging track just before noon.
At 5 pm we boarded the bus along with 25 other guests for the trip from the port of Callao into Lima. The traffic in Lima is horrendous. Makes the Cairo traffic actually look good. It took an hour to get to the first place on the tour - a water fountain park. We walked around the park along with most of the residents of Lima. Crowds were crazy! The fountains were pretty but we spent about an hour and a half there and most of us were ready to move on well before that. Below is a picture of one of the fountains.
We got back on the bus and joined the traffic jam attempting to get to a couple of the squares in downtown Lima. We eventually got to see Plaza des Armas which is surrounded by beautiful colonial buildings and San Martin. No chance for photos as it was dark by then and traffic was pure congestion.
Finally we got to Casa Aliaga where we had dinner. The venue was spectacular and the meal was delicious! Below is a picture of part of the courtyard in the Casa.
We were served a Pisco Sour on arrival along with some canapes.
Then we moved into the dining room - a beautiful room. The first course was a delicious asparagus souffle.
The main course was grilled fish with potatoes, carrots and snow peas. Dessert was chocolate mousse.
We then boarded the bus again and finally got back to the ship around 11 pm. Went to bed very soon after that.
Today is another day in Lima.......
