We sailed into Tauranga, New Zealand this morning at around 9:00 am. Here is a picture of Mount Maunganui taken from our balcony during the sail into the harbour.
The ship was docked at a pier very close to Mount Mauganui. We left the ship around 9:45 and made our way to the start of the path that circles the base of the Mount. It was a 2.9 kilometer walk that revealed many beautiful views of the water and beach at the very base. Today is part of Waitangi Day weekend - New Zealand's National Holiday. There were many Kiwi families taking the same walk. Surprisingly there were many very young children in strollers or being carried by parents and grandparents.
Here are a couple of pictures taken on our walk around the base.
After the walk we went back to the ship for a wee rest and some cold water. Around 1:00 pm we headed back into the commercial area for lunch and some shopping. We had wonderful fish and chips at "Mag's Fish and Chips" on Maunganui Street.
We wandered down that street to find new sandals for Myster. The strap on the pair we brought from home broke about 2 weeks ago. We found a great place to buy some souvenirs and then came back to the ship.
I think there will be a special Chinese meal in The Restaurant tonight to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
Tomorrow we will be in Auckland.....
