We docked in Ashdod, Israel this morning at about 8:00 am. After an early breakfast we set off for our Day in Jerusalem tour. The drive took about an hour. Our first stop was the Mount of Olives. Here is a picture.
Here are two pictures taken from the bus on the way to Old Jerusalem.
We entered Old Jerusalem through the Jaffa gate.
There were vendors and stalls everywhere.
We visited the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
Next we visited the Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall. I wrote a "wish" or "prayer" for our family and stuck it into a small crack in the wall.
This is an excavation near the Western Wall.
This is just before our exit of Old Jerusalem at the Dung Gate.
We went for a buffet lunch then headed to Dormition Abbey.
Next came a visit to the Room of the Last Supper (really a commemorative site not the real location which is unknown) and the Tomb of King David.
Here are the two symbols of Israel - the menorah and the Star of David.
Jerusalem is a beautiful city! We felt safe there despite the recent wave of violence.
We got back to the ship at about 5:30 pm and went for a drink on the pool deck. Then we ordered a pizza for dining in suite.
Tomorrow is Haifa, Israel...
