Day 104 - Aqaba, Jordan

The ship had a delayed departure last night as the buses returning from Luxor were late.  As a result we were late docking in Aqaba, Jordan this morning.  We had a leisurely breakfast then headed out for our excursion to Petra.

It was a drive of about 1.75 hours but it took 2 hours because we stopped for a bathroom break and a photo opportunity for the Petra Mountains.  Here are a few pictures.

We arrived in Petra at around 12:30 pm and began our exploration.  Petra was the capital of the Nabataean Empire from the 1st century BC.  It is a UNESCO world heritage site since 1985 and it was announced as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. Here are some pictures from our walk of about 3 miles.

Bab Al Siq - the entrance to the Siq.

The next 5 pictures were taken during out .75 mile walk through the Siq.

First view of The Treasury from the Siq.

And a few pictures from the walk beyond the treasury.

After our visit here we had a lovely buffet lunch at 4:00 pm at a hotel restaurant very close to the site.  At 5:30 pm we started the drive back to the ship.  We arrived at about 7:30 pm and ordered a pizza for in suite dining.

Tomorrow is Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt...
