196 Days And Counting.....

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have been playing with the packing lists in terms of the ratio of warm weather clothing to cool weather clothing.  I decided to spend part of the day yesterday on the internet doing research into the average monthly temperature highs and lows and the average rainfall in mm for the ports we would visit in each of the four months.  I used the website weatherbase.com to create the table that appears below:

As you will notice, most of the ports fall between 21 C and 33 C for average high temperatures until we get to the ports in the Mediterranean at the end of the cruise.  I think I will need to adjust the mix of clothing further.  I had settled on 60% warm weather attire and 40% cool weather.  I may now go for 80% warm and 20% cool.

The other interesting piece of info from the table is the average amount of monthly rainfall (in mm) for the various ports.  There were some surprises for me.  Puerto Limon, Costa Rica gets approximately 310 mm of rain in January.  To put that in perspective, we got 82 mm of rain in April of this year.  Cairns, Thursday Island and Darwin, Australia receive  410, 370 and 340 mm respectively for the month of February.  Bora, Bora, French Polynesia takes the prize in this category with 470 mm of rain in January.  I will be packing Gore-Tex jackets for Myster and me.  The ship provides umbrellas for the use of passengers.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate for us.

And the planning continues.....
