I have been in contact with Jon Fleming, the gentleman I mentioned in an earlier post who was blogging about the 2015 World Cruise. He is a Travel and Destination lecturer and has been on many different cruise lines. He is a regular on Silversea World Cruises. He has graciously provided some suggested points of interest for the 2016 World Cruise. One of the really fascinating ideas is a mid-voyage land excursion to Bagan, an ancient city in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar (formerly Burma). It is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in
Southeast Asia and ranks on par with such awe-inspiring monuments as
Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Borobudur in Java. Once the capital of the
first unified empire of Anawrahta and founded in 849A, Bagan is the
famous for its more than 3000 religious monuments, ancient pagodas,
temples and other religious buildings in its surrounds. These buildings,
many of them in ruins today, constitute one of the architectural
wonders of the world. Below is a picture of Bagan that was uploaded to Flickr by Corto Maltese.
There is an exciting option to this trip. It is called Balloons Over Bagan. It is a hot air balloon ride at sunrise over the pagodas and shrines. It looks absolutely magical! Myster has a little trouble with heights but he is keen to explore this option. Here is a picture taken by Christopher Michel/http://www.christophermichel.com/.
So many exciting adventures await!
